So, You’re an Introvert Raising an Extrovert…

Some of us find people overwhelming and that’s okay. However, it can get complicated, and even more overwhelming, when your child is an extrovert while you are firmly in camp introvert. Luckily, it doesn’t have to be an endless source of stress.

Your extrovert thrives on social interaction, but there are ways to give that to them while still protecting your needs. If you can afford them, daycare for younger children and summer camps for children of any age are full of people and activity and can provide your children with the socialization they crave while keeping you insulated from unwanted social interactions. . Similarly, many schools have low-cost or free after-school clubs for children to join. What about the dreaded playdate? It doesn’t have to be so dreaded. Outdoors gives you more space to watch the kids, but not be in the thick of the noise and hubbub. You can take turns with the other parents to give each other some down time.

And, importantly, find ways to find the time you need for yourself. An overwhelmed and drained parent is not at their best, so find the restorative space that you need. Work with your family to meet the needs of all members. If you have other family adults remember that you are not alone and if you don’t we can find ways to build your village.
